As the minister of Covenant Presbyterian Church, John’s passion is expositional preaching from the Bible. A gifted teacher, he is a pastor with real-world experience and a heart for leading others to the truth of the gospel.

John is a native and lifelong resident of Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born and reared in a faithful Christian home and professed a saving faith in Christ at a young age. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, and is pursuing additional studies. John is a former real estate executive and spent 20 years in the business world.

John and his wife Sydney have been married for 19 years. They have three children who are actively involved at Covenant.

This week's service included the sermon "Providential Provision, from Exodus 1:6-2:10, and the Lord's Supper was observed this week. The hymns for this week were "Holy! Holy! Holy!," "O Father, You are Sovereign," Psalm 65 (verses 1-5), and "Children of the Heavenly Father." The choir sang the hymn "Savior, Like a Shepherd, Lead Us" for the offertory.
This week's service featured the sermon "The Lord is Faithful," part of our continuing sermon series, 1 & 2 Thessalonians: Every Grace Endued. The hymns for this week were "We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator," Psalm 92 (verses 1-6, 10-15), "I Will Sing of My Redeemer," and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." The choir sang the hymn "Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven" for the offertory.
This week, Dr. John Clayton preached the sermon "Beloved by the Lord," as part of his continuing sermon series, 1 & 2 Thessalonians: Every Grace Endued. The hymns for this week were "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty," Psalm 89 (verses 1-8, 17-19, "O Christ, Our King, Creator, Lord," and "How Deep the Father's Love for Us." The choir sang "Amazing Grace" for the offertory.
This week's service featured the sermon "Beware Deception, Believe Truth," from 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12, part of our sermon series 1 & 2 Thessalonians: Every Grace Endued. The hymns for this week were "We Gather Together," Psalm 37 (verses 1-5, 12-16), "O Sacred Head, Now Wounded, and A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. For the offertory, the choir sang "Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies."
This week's service featured the sermon "Worthy of His Calling," from 2 Thessalonians 1:1-12, the ninth installment in our sermon series 1 & 2 Thessalonians: Every Grace Endued. The hymns for this week were "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing," Psalm 9 (verses 1-2, 7-10), "O Christ, Our King, Creator, Lord," and Be Thou My Vision. We also welcomed cellist Patrick Bellah, who played Britten's Cello Suite No. 1: "Canto Primo" for the Prelude, and Bach's Cello Suite No. 3: "Sarabande" for the offertory.
