As the minister of Covenant Presbyterian Church, John’s passion is expositional preaching from the Bible. A gifted teacher, he is a pastor with real-world experience and a heart for leading others to the truth of the gospel.

John is a native and lifelong resident of Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born and reared in a faithful Christian home and professed a saving faith in Christ at a young age. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, and is pursuing additional studies. John is a former real estate executive and spent 20 years in the business world.

John and his wife Sydney have been married for 19 years. They have three children who are actively involved at Covenant.

In keeping with our practice on the first Sunday of every month, this Sunday included observing the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. Dr. John Clayton continued his Lord's Supper Sunday walk through the book of Exodus, this time in the first two verses of chapter 5 with his sermon, "Know the Lord." The hymns for this week were "We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator," Psalm 113 (verses 1-8), "My Faith Has Found a Resting Place," and "Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts." In addition, the choir sang the song "O Splendor of the Father's Light" for the offertory.
