As the minister of Covenant Presbyterian Church, John’s passion is expositional preaching from the Bible. A gifted teacher, he is a pastor with real-world experience and a heart for leading others to the truth of the gospel.

John is a native and lifelong resident of Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born and reared in a faithful Christian home and professed a saving faith in Christ at a young age. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, and is pursuing additional studies. John is a former real estate executive and spent 20 years in the business world.

John and his wife Sydney have been married for 19 years. They have three children who are actively involved at Covenant.

We began 2019 by observing the sacrament of the Lord's Supper together as a church. Dr. John Clayton took his usual break from our Matthew sermon series this week to continue his Lord's Supper preaching through the book of Exodus, this time from Exodus 18:13-27, a sermon entitled, "Between God and Man."
