John Clayton

As the minister of Covenant Presbyterian Church, John’s passion is expositional preaching from the Bible. A gifted teacher, he is a pastor with real-world experience and a heart for leading others to the truth of the gospel.

John is a native and lifelong resident of Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born and reared in a faithful Christian home and professed a saving faith in Christ at a young age. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, and is pursuing additional studies. John is a former real estate executive and spent 20 years in the business world.

John and his wife Sydney have been married for 19 years. They have three children who are actively involved at Covenant.

This week's service marks the beginning of our church's yearly Advent observances, and featured Dr. John Clayton's sermon, "Hope: Believing God," from 2 Kings 9:1-13. As it was the first Sunday of the month, we also observed the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. The hymns for this week were "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," "Psalm 13," "The Apostles' Creed," and "Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus."
With this week's lecture on prayer in the Westminster Larger Catechism, Dr. John Clayton now turns to the Lord's Prayer, which will be the topic for the remainder of the series.

Our Sunday School lectures through the Westminster Larger Catechism section on prayer continue with Questions 184 & 185.
